Every year brings a new crop of noteworthy hotel openings around the world-properties that are highly anticipated among globetrotters far and wide.
This year's list of new luxury properties includes offerings in such unforgettable destinations as the Maldives; Santa Barbara, California and even Rwanda. There are also new luxe hotels slated for such destinations as Nashville, Tennessee; Macao, China and Los Cabos, Mexico.
Here are some of the property openings recently recognized by Forbes as being among the most eagerly awaited luxury hotels in the world for 2018:
Rosewood Miramar Beach Montecito, Santa Barbara, California
An oceanfront retreat in the heart of one of California's most luxurious and picturesque communities, the Rosewood Miramar Beach is scheduled to welcome its first guests this summer.
Set on 16 acres of prime oceanfront real estate and a private beach considered to be one of the most beautiful (and most secluded) in the area, Rosewood Miramar will include a seaside bar and restaurant with an outdoor terrace; two swimming pools and a Sense spa.
Baglioni Resort Maldives
The Maldives has long been a legendary luxury destination, attracting the rich and famous from around the world.
This year, the stunning beach paradise will include a new property where elite travelers can be pampered. Baglioni Resort Maldives is located on the secluded private island of Maagau, in Dhaalu Atoll (a 40-minute hop by seaplane from the capital). The property, which will open this summer, features 96 garden beach and over-water villas, including a two-story, three-bedroom villa.
There will also be four restaurants, a kids' club, and a spa offering Ayurvedic and Thai therapies with indigenous Maldivian ingredients.
The Fairlane Hotel, Nashville, Tennessee
Not only is Nashville known as Music City, it's also home to one of the country's most noteworthy culinary scenes.
In just a few months, the city will also be home to a new luxury boutique hotel: The Fairlane Hotel is to be a retro-modern property that includes many design details harking back to the 1960s and 1970s. Among its notable offerings is a 4,000-square-foot penthouse featuring a wraparound terrace from which to observe all of Music City.
One & Only Gorilla's Nest, Rwanda
Rwanda is one of the up and coming destinations of 2018. Just in time to capture some of this new tourism attention, comes One & Only Gorilla's Nest.
Scheduled to open toward the end of the year, the property allows visitors to get up close to gorillas as one of its primary attractions. From its base near the village of Kingi, visitors are able to explore the foothills of the Virunga Volcanoes where these severely endangered animals still roam free in their own habitat.
When not exploring, the property offers a spa for pampering, which features treatments that incorporate traditional African ingredients.
Montage Resort and Residences, Los Cabos, Mexico
Travelers have not let an increasing spate of Mexican gang violence stop them from visiting some of their favorite destinations on the Baja peninsula, Los Cabos among them.
This year, visitors will find a new luxury property in this destination known for its many opulent offerings. The Montage Resort and Residences, scheduled to open in May, is located on the sweeping shores of Santa Maria Bay.
The resort features 122 expansive guestrooms, suites and casas, as well as walking access to some of the finest swimming, diving and snorkeling in the region. There will also be an extensive wellness program and signature treatments offered at Spa Montage.
