Situated on the Plateau des Saix, within the heart of France's fourth largest ski area, Club Med recently opened Grand Massif Samoëns Morillon in the beautiful French Alps.
This brand new, all-inclusive resort blends seamlessly with its mountainous setting.
The first thing you'll notice at Grand Massif is how it boasts incredible, 360 degree panoramic views of the Samoëns Morillon valley. So whether you're actually on the slopes or not, unobstructed views of the mountains are constant.
Each of the resort's chic 423 rooms-including club rooms, deluxe rooms and family suites-feature a balcony or terrace showcasing rugged scenery. Accommodations are cozy and play up an autumn theme with green accents against neutral tones.
The whimsical animal motifs that adorn the bathroom doors and decorative walls create a contemporary feel.
A winter stay at Grand Massif means snow and plenty of it. With nearly 150 runs and over 160 miles of pristine, powdery white slopes to explore, you're quite literally in a winter wonderland.
With my ski equipment waiting for me in a heated locker-one of the major perks of Club Med's Easy Arrival service which allows guests the option of reserving equipment before departure-I was ready for my very first ski lesson.
Yes, I was a complete beginner.
Despite my nerves and safety concerns, I clumsily shuffled my skis onto the snow, thoroughly enjoying the clubby pop music playing in the background, to meet my instructor Patrick. Soon after learning the basics-including mastering the "pizza" breaking technique-we were off, following his tracks down the beginner slopes.
After coming off the high of my successful skiing introduction, it became apparent that my instructor's positivity and enthusiasm could be found throughout the resort.
Every interaction with a Club Med employee-G.O. (gentils organisateurs) for short-was refreshingly genuine in a way that made me actually want to be friends with him or her. With that in mind, Grand Massif has plenty of après ski entertainment and nightlife. Whether live music, Djs, dancing or performances, every night feels like a party, and why shouldn't it?
The same G.O.s you run into working at the spa, restaurants or at the pool could be the same ones you find dancing on stage and on the floor later that night. You quickly become one, happy Club Med family, which sets their properties apart from most others.
Also on property is "Le Skyline" Gourmet Lounge (open all day until 11pm), Cav a Vin where you can get expert wine advice from its sommelier, and Bread & Co, the restaurant dedicated to children.
Bread & Co gives kids the chance to live out their culinary dreams by inviting them to play 'petits chefs.' They concoct the meal and partake in activities like break bowl making!
Finally, while the area is certainly known for its epic skiing, this resort is open in both the summer and winter months. The Lac Bleu is just 20 minutes away, making for an ideal warm weather destination complete with hiking, biking, swimming and more.
