Hilton launched its exclusive Curio Collection in 2014 and now has more than 40 upscale hotels that have been hand-selected for character and personality.
The newest member to this collection is the Statler in Dallas.
The hotel has undergone a $225 million redevelopment and is an icon of the city. The property represents the heart and soul of Dallas and is truly representative of the Curio Collection's one-of-a-kind properties.
"Today is a special day for Curio Collection, as we welcome back a remarkable hotel and industry forerunner to Hilton and the great city of Dallas," said Mark Nogal, global head, Curio Collection by Hilton.
"We look forward to elevating The Statler's legacy as it adds 159 magnificent guest rooms to our growing collection, to offer travelers and locals alike, another magnificent, independent hotel to discover that exudes authenticity," Nogal added.
The hotel originally opened in 1956 as one of Conrad Hilton's first convention properties and has been heralded as a pioneer with many firsts that have become industry standards-like elevator music. The hotel is often credited with putting Dallas on the map as a hub for business and entertainment.
Sixty years after its opening, the property has been reinvented by owner and developer Centurion American Development Group.
"We are honored to reopen the doors of The Statler. Known as the first modern American hotel, The Statler is a one-of-a-kind property encompassing endless history and culture," said Mehrdad Moayedi, president and CEO of Centurion American Development Group.
"Our vision in restoring The Statler to its original glory and beyond was to create the ideal place to live, work and play for locals, and the ultimate Dallas destination for visitors to our city," Moayedi continued.
Hilton's Curio Collection has been undergoing rapid development over the last few years. Several other iconic hotels have become part of the curated group.
Most recently, the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego became a part of the Curio brand in a move that allows the property to join forces with Hilton and not lose the independent look and feel the property is known for. The Ames hotel in Boston is another iconic property that became a part of the Curio Collection during June of last year.
Hilton has big plans for the brand and development is on a global scale.
The hotel company already launched the Curio Collection in Europe in 2015 and, more recently, Hilton is devoting $50 million to investments in its Africa portfolio. Some of that will be dedicated to expanding its Curio Collection.
