Bed bugs were found at least four hotels and resorts on the popular Las Vegas Strip in recent months, according to public health records, echoing last year’s negative sentiments surrounding the risk of bed bugs in Sin City.
According to local news station KSNV, the Las Vegas affiliate of NBC, none of the hotels were given any fines or fees, though the rooms were treated.
The information comes from the Southern Nevada Health District. According to KSNV, bed bugs were reported on September 3, 2023, at the Venetian/Palazzo. The next month, bed bugs were reported at The Mirage. In late October, a guest of the Excalibur reported bed bugs. In early December, a guest at Encore reported bed bugs.
At each hotel, the rooms were disinfected and cleaned with insecticides made to kill bed bugs, per each property’s bed bug regulations.
While bed bugs don’t spread diseases, they’re bloodsucking insects that can range from the size of a poppy seed to about a quarter-inch long, and they’re known for making nighttime incredibly aggravating for people with bed bug infestations. Like mosquitoes, they find warm-blooded creatures to bite and suck their blood, which can become irritating.
Las Vegas welcomed 40.8 million travelers in 2023, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. That’s a lot of people who could be bringing in bed bugs from their own homes or previous accommodations. Hotels and resorts are the most vulnerable to bed bug infestations precisely because they welcome so many people.
