The Bahamas' popularity among travelers stems from more than its sunny skies, brilliant blue waters and white-sand beaches. A diversity of guest accommodations - from feature-filled mega resorts to intimate boutique hotels - is available across the capital city of Nassau.

Following nearly $10 million in new renovations, the "super-inclusive" Breezes Resort & Spa - Bahamas on historic Cable Beach stands out among the multitude of options as a strong entrant for vacationers seeking a value-oriented warm-weather getaway.

As one of the original major hotels on Cable Beach, the Breezes Bahamas commands an uninterrupted stretch of Cable Beach with clear view of the ocean and coastline. Nassau's downtown shopping and historic district is a 15-minute drive from the property. The Paradise Islands resort district is also within close proximity of the Breezes property.

The December opening of the massive $3.5 billion Baha Mar complex will add another mega-resort to Nassau's hotel inventory and provide Breezes guests with more entertainment opportunities, as the new complex will feature an expansive shopping area and a new 100,000-square-foot casino. "We are welcoming Baha Mar's opening in December," said Jackson Weech, the resort's general manager.

"Our guests will enjoy well-priced accommodations, and the best part of the beach in Nassau, plus close access to the attractions at the new resort," he said. "Baha Mar is good news for our destination as a whole, as it certainly puts the Bahamas at the center of attention in the vacation marketplace."

Accomodations

Breezes Bahamas guest rooms are divided among two towers, an eight-story west wing and a four-story east wing, both of which overlook the beach. The recently renovated 391 guest rooms include five suites and 36 oceanfront deluxe rooms, and are available in garden view, ocean view and oceanfront categories. Each room features mahogany wood furnishings and a work desk and chair.

In addition all rooms also offer Wi-Fi access, satellite TV, direct-dial telephones, CD players, iron and ironing boards, hair dryers and in-room safety deposit boxes. Each room features either one king size or two double beds, and a "breezeway" connected to garden-facing rooms and offering direct beach access.

Public Areas

The resort's guest facilities include three freshwater pools, with one offering Sip & Dip, a swim-up bar. The resort's Blue Mahoe Spa offers a variety of relaxing massages and treatments. In the evenings, Breezes Bahamas' lively piano bar stays open until the last person leaves.

In addition, Breezes Bahamas has re-tiled its 18,000-square-foot lobby with bright splashes of color that complement the white Italian marble. The open lobby directly overlooks the beach and now features a refinished central bar and stage area. The lobby area also features a billiards room with new wood flooring.

The resort is also within range of the Bahamas' multitude of adventure and active excursions and water sports including tennis, golf, beach volleyball, kayaking, diving, snorkeling and windsurfing.

Dining Options

A new $1.5 million restaurant, the Banana Boat, recently replaced the resort's former main dining room. Seating up to 300 at white linen tables and booths, Banana Boat features a sushi bar, carving station, and a cheese and wine station, plus a selection of salads, antipasto, breads, soups, and daily specials. The buffet venue serves three daily meals plus a midnight buffet.

The restaurant's center is finished in the shape of a ship's bow and offers both indoor and outdoor terrace seating. The Banana Boat also has a new private VIP dining alcove, the Captain's Table, which seats up to 10 and includes waiter service. Reservations for the Captain's Table can be made in advance.

"We decided to add the preferred seating as we are seeing more and more multigenerational families visit the resort, in addition to small meetings and other groups of travelers," said Muna Issa, vice president of operations of Breezes' parent company, SuperClubs.

Breezes Bahamas' Italian restaurant, Martino's, has been revamped with $100,000 in new tile work. Another new dining option is the poolside Reggae Café, which offers a selection of fun island fare on Sunday and Monday nights. Here guests sit among colorful picnic tables for casual island cuisine including jerk pork and a "Bob Marlin nyamwich," grilled filet of snapper marinated in escovitch sauce and served on coco bread.

Munasan is a specialty restaurant open each Friday and Saturday night with seating for 30 guests. The eatery features four-course meals for sushi lovers served at no additional cost. The menu features customary Japanese cuisine and integrates local Bahamian flavors and ingredients.
