With all the technological advances we've made - self-driving cars, Siri, Smartphones - it was only a matter of time before robots became a regular part of hotel staffs.

That day has arrived.

In Singapore, the M Social Hotel has just announced AURA, a room service robot, according to a CNN report.

The robot will be used to deliver various amenities to hotel guests, the article said. This new addition to the hotel's staff is just the first of several robots to be put into service. Among the M Social Hotel's future robots will be a model that's able to cook various kinds of eggs.

AURA is not the first time robotic technology has made an appearance at a hotel.

In 2016, CNN reported that robots had begun working at a handful of hotels, including the Henn-na Hotel in Sasebo, Japan, a property staffed entirely by machines.

A robot named Mario has been working at a Marriott hotel in Ghent, Belgium, since June 2015, the same 2016 article stated. Mario welcomes guests in 19 languages and stands watch over the buffet.

And the list goes on.

In the United States, for instance, a device powered by IBM's human-mimicking Watson computer fills a concierge position at Virginia's Hilton McLean property.

Not to be outdone, cruise lines have also gotten into the artificial intelligence action. Amid much fanfare in 2015, Royal Caribbean installed cocktail-mixing robot bartenders on several ships. They're said to be a big hit with passengers.

Robots are the latest technological advance at hotels worldwide. In recent years, hotels have begun implementing such things as temperature control systems that shut off the heating and cooling when guest rooms are empty. Others have put computer tablets in rooms that enable guests to order room service, request a taxi or close the blinds, the Los Angeles Times reported.

In addition, major hotel chains such as Marriott International have launched smartphone apps that allow guests to check in using their mobile phones.
