The news out of Los Cabos continues to get progressively better, with tourism officials reporting that the lion's share of hotels damaged by Hurricane Odile has reopened. In another clear indication of the destination's recovery, officials said Los Cabos International Airport experienced its second-best January on record in terms of traffic.
"This news motivates us in the tourism community and is a reflection of all of the hard work and effort being put into rebuilding our destination," said Ruben Reachi, secretary of tourism for the state of Baja California Sur. "We are anticipating a fantastic year ahead for Cabo."
On the hotel front, the most recent properties to reopen are The Resort at Pedregal on Jan. 31 and Secrets Marquis-Los Cabos on Feb. 15.
Esperanza is scheduled to reopen in early spring and One&Only Palmilla on April 20.
With the nightmare of Odile largely behind it, Los Cabos is able to focus on expansion, and will add 2,000 rooms to its hotel inventory over the next two years. In March, City Express Plus and City Express Suites will open, followed by a Hampton Inn & Suites in May.
This summer, the 140-room Thompson Cabo San Lucas will open its doors as will a JW Marriott property later in the year.
In the fall, Grand Solmar Land's End Resort & Spa will debut the addition of 90 rooms and a new spa.
Hotel development continues well into 2016, with still more properties scheduled to open, including a Park Hyatt, Hard Rock, Le Blanc Resort, VieVage Los Cabos, and Mar Adentro by Encanto.
In 2017, Solaz, a Starwood Luxury Collection property, is scheduled to debut in January.
On the air front, United Airlines will offer new service to Los Cabos from Washington, D.C. in March, and Southwest from Baltimore in June.
