So you arrive at your resort in Mexico, and it's as stunning as it looks in the photos. The sun is shining, the waves are lapping, and the smiling hotel staff greets you with a delicious cocktail - it's paradise. That is, until you make it to the pool area where the lounge chairs are all taken, the pool itself is crowded and you can't even get the attention of a server because it's too busy. And you were so looking forward to some quiet, low-key time, tucked in with a good book and a mezcal cocktail post refreshing dip.
That's exactly the reason why we adore in-suite plunge pools. They're private, they're quiet, and there's always a lounge chair open just for you and your book. Better yet, you can get grub and drinks delivered from room service, and play your favorite tunes without having to worry about disturbing others. Convinced yet? Here are five of Mexico's best to consider.
One&Only Palmilla (Los Cabos)
Cabo's One&Only Palmilla has been declared by many as one of the best resorts in Mexico, let alone Los Cabos. It's a big resort with an intimate boutique hotel feel, great dining, and an excellent eye for detail - comfy daybeds on private terraces for yummy siestas, anyone?
More important, at least for the sake of this list, are the gorgeous plunge pools in some of its suite categories. Whether you're staying in an Ocean Front Junior Suite with Plunge Pool or an Ocean Front Pool Casita Junior Suite, or splurging in an Ocean Front One Bedroom Grand Suite with Pool, you're guaranteed your very own plunge pool that come with a spectacular panorama of the Sea of Cortez. Rates start at $615 a night.
NIZUC Resort & Spa (Cancun)
Nestled in the southern corner of Cancun's famous hotel zone, NIZUC Resort & Spa not only exudes elegance but also closely guards its guests' privacy, making it a favorite among dignitaries and celebrities. Beyond those, it boasts a modern Asian architecture, a Mayan vibe and formidable restaurants.
The resort also has a collection of infinity pools, our favorite being the adult pool at La Punta. Especially during the busiest time of the day, however, we prefer to retreat back to our suite. NIZUC's higher category suites come with their very own infinity-edge plunge pool as well as a balcony appointed with loungers and a basket of towels that housekeeping always keeps stocked. Top that with an in-room speaker, and you can throw a little private pool party. Rates start at $405 a night.

Casa Velas (Puerto Vallarta)
You can always count on Velas Resorts to show you a wonderful, Mexican holiday. Their all-inclusive properties, therefore, will always have a place in our wandering hearts. And their upscale property of Casa Velas is even better. This Puerto Vallarta boutique property mixes all the things that we love about the Velas properties with more upscale vibe and amenities.
Among the extra perks are the Handbag Bar and the Pillow Menu, as well as the private plunge pools that are included in some suite categories. They're set in intimate private gardens and kept in secret by well-maintained shrubbery. If you have the budget to splurge, the Presidential Suite comes with a bigger one, set on its very own terrace. All-inclusive rates start at $468 a night.
La Casa Que Canta (Zihuatanejo)
The utterly romantic La Casa Que Canta, with its adobe architecture, extraordinary views and bougainvillea-lined terraces, is arguably one of Mexico's best boutique resorts. This enchanting Zihuatanejo escape is all about unplugging and simply unspooling. A holiday here means zero TV time, hours of lazy lounging in the sun, and mini bar goodies and fresh fruit to sample to your heart's content.
Its best features, in our opinion, are the plunge pools in some of the higher room categories. They're set on private sun-kissed terraces, which are also flourished with sun loungers, a hammock and a breakfast table. If you're planning spending most of your holiday locked in your hotel suite, this is THE place to do it. Rates start at $314 a night.
Be Tulum (Tulum)
Low-key and very bohemian, Tulum has its own hotel zone, imbued with yoga studios, spas, fantastic restaurants, and boutique hotels. One of the best ones might just be Be Tulum whose modern yet very organic and rustic aesthetic fits perfectly with the vibe of the town. The 40-suite luxury hotel boasts a very natural setting, a glorious spa, wellness classes, and exceptional food.
We especially love that all of its suites, save the Agua Suites, come with their very own private plunge pool surrounded with all the elements that make Tulum… well, Tulum. Secure a first-floor suite whose pool is surrounded by fine sand or a garden. Or if you prefer high places, get an Ocean Suite whose second-floor terrace boasts a glass-walled pool. Just remember to enjoy it with a mezcal cocktail from the bar. Rates start at $459 a night.
