Over the Water, in Perfection at Sandals South Coast

Over-the-water bungalows are a vacation luxury typically associated with far-flung destinations such as Fiji, Bora Bora, the Maldives and Malaysia.
Traveling half-way around the world to experience such a memorable vacation accommodation, however, is hardly necessary anymore.
Sandals South Coast, in Whitehouse, Jamaica, recently unveiled its own over-the-water-bungalow offerings.
The luxe thatched-roof accommodations include glass floors that allow guests to view marine life below; personalized butler service; a tranquility soaking tub; over the water hammocks for two and suspended patios (to name a few of the drool-worthy details.)
But there’s more: Vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors and custom-crafted, king-size beds are some of the additional design features in the palapa-style bungalows. Each also comes equipped with a smart TV and spa-style bathrooms with his and hers sinks.
In addition, bungalow guests receive exclusive inclusions such as in-room dining, a personal airport greeting and expedited immigration.
Sandals Resorts International (SRI) was the first to debut over-the-water-bungalows in the Caribbean (at Sandals Royal Caribbean in Montego Bay). The first group of bungalows opened in December 2016 and were such a success that they were soon followed by more at additional Sandals properties.
The new bungalows at Sandals South Coast are actually just one of the noteworthy features at the sprawling Jamaica resort.
The property is also home to Jamaica’s largest zero-entry pool, and two Renaissance-style pools. When not swimming or observing marine life from your bungalow, there are nine specialty restaurants to explore.
Dining options range from pan-Asian to a French café and a seafood grill. There’s also a sushi bar by the beach, and a restaurant specializing in Calypso fair.

As for entertainment and exercise, the options range from tennis and volleyball to sailing, scuba diving, kayaking and windsurfing.
And just in case you’d like more time communing with the ocean, Sandals South Coast also recently added the first-ever Sandals over-the-water bar. The views are said to be fabulous and the bar is surrounded by romantic firepits and cantilevered hammocks.
With all of this, who needs Bora Bora?
