On Tuesday, officials announced two Air Transat pilots were arrested for allegedly being under the influence of alcohol as they prepared to fly a passenger airplane on a transatlantic route.
According to NBCNews.com, Air Transat Flight TS725 was scheduled to fly from Glasgow, Scotland, to Toronto, Canada, Monday afternoon when the two pilots were arrested.
The names of the two pilots have not been released, but reports suggest the 39-year-old and 37-year-old crew members were taken into custody Monday morning by police in Scotland in relation to being allegedly impaired with alcohol.
Officials from Air Transat confirmed the arrests, but would not comment further on the situation until the investigation is completed and the findings are released. The airline did release a statement to the media saying, "The safety of our crews and passengers is, and will remain, a top priority at Air Transat."
As for the passengers scheduled to depart on Air Transat Flight TS725, the plane did not depart until Tuesday, leaving many people furious about the extensive delay. The pilots are due in court Tuesday.
