An Aeromexico plane carrying 101 people has crashed in the Northern Mexican state of Durango.
The airline has confirmed the accident and is working to obtain additional details, according to multiple news organizations.
The Associated Press reported there were no deaths as a result of the accident, citing a social media post by Durango Gov. Jose Aispuro who wrote on his Twitter account that “it is confirmed there were no fatalities in the accident.”
The plane, which crashed near Guadalupe Victoria International Airport, was en route to Mexico City. The plane’s flight number was 2431 and it was an Embraer 190, according to The Independent.
Durango is more than 550 miles northwest of Mexico City.
Though there is limited information available about the crash, television images have aired showing the tail of a plane bearing an Aeromexico logo in what appears to be a scrubland and a column of smoke rising into the sky. The plane appears lying on its belly, mostly intact. Lines of ambulances can be seen waiting at the site.
A Milenio reporter said some passengers walked to the highway to seek help.
