Airlines Preparing for Winter Storm Grayson

As Winter Storm Grayson heads toward the Northeast coastline Thursday, the top airlines in the United States have started offering travel waivers due to possible delays and cancellations.

Thanks to what meteorologists at Weather.com call bombogenesis, areas throughout the Mid-Atlantic, New England and Southeast will experience heavy snow, damaging winds, battering waves and coastal flooding over the coming days.

American Airlines has issued a wide travel advisory for the Northeast, allowing passengers traveling on January 4-5 to change their flights to and from impacted cities without change fees. Some of the impacted airports can be found in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Maine.

Delta Air Lines also issued a similar travel advisory as Winter Storm Grayson hits the Northeast. The carrier revealed that while the change fees will be waived, the passengers will be responsible for any potential difference in fare.

For travelers planning to fly to or from impacted areas, Southwest Airlines has people covered by allowing passengers to change flights without paying any additional charge.

In addition to travel advisories for the Northeast on January 4-5, Southwest is also offering waivers to travelers at airports in the Southeast on January 3-4 due to icy conditions, including airports in North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida.

United Airlines travelers have been issued three travel advisories broken down by region, including Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southeast. Additional impacted cities include Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Baltimore and Richmond.

All United travelers heading to or from impacted airports will have all change fees and any difference in fare waived for flights departing on or before January 8.
