with resilience (mostly). As 2024 begins to unfold, Allianz Partners’ research
has found that strong travel demand persists; plus, we haven’t seen the last of
post-pandemic “revenge travel”. In its report, Allianz provides a sneak peek
into the upcoming travel landscape, presenting insights into evolving trends
and offering advice on how to navigate common vacation challenges.

self-care were top priorities for 54 percent of younger travelers (18- to 34-year-olds)
in 2023, with 42 percent expressing a willingness to embark on solo trips.
While these trends are not exactly new developments, they are poised to
intensify in 2024, driven by the younger generation's advocacy for the personal
growth inherent in these experiences.

Allianz Partners' 15th Annual Vacation
Confidence Index report indicates that wellness and self-care were top
priorities for 54 percent of younger travelers (18- to 34-year-olds) in 2023,
with 42 percent expressing a willingness to embark on solo trips. While these
trends are not novel, they are poised to intensify in 2024, driven by the
younger generation's prioritizing the type of personal growth they stand to
gain from these experiences.
On top of that, a
recent survey
of travel advisors conducted by the travel insurance company reveals a
cruise-centric travel landscape, with over 75 percent of customer bookings
allocated to cruises. Ocean cruises lead the pack, followed by river cruises,
expeditions and themed cruises. The expedition cruise market, in particular, is
expected to flourish in 2024, with travel advisor bookings reflecting rising
popularity and previous passengers eager to plan their next voyage.

In addition to
maritime adventures, major global sporting events—especially the 2024
Paris Olympics and the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament in Germany—are
set to attract a significant number of travelers. Another Allianz Partners' survey
discovered that there was a 55 percent increase in trips to Europe
during the summer of 2023, with expectations of continued growth in the 2024
season.
Europe also
continues to benefit from post-pandemic pend-up travel demand, as so-called “revenge”
travelers continue to book bucket-list-style trips. Allianz’ most recent
holiday survey revealed that American travelers are increasingly choosing
destinations on the Iberian Peninsula, such as Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, and
Lisbon, Portugal experiencing notable surges in booking traffic

To ensure a safe
and enjoyable travel season, Allianz Partners USA's Senior Medical Consultants,
Dr. Eugene Delaune and Dr. Jim Evans, offered some valuable insights. For
tropical beach or cruise destinations, they recommend packing sunscreen to
prevent sunburns, and suggest ginger candy or tea for those going on cruises
who are prone to sea sickness. Travelers venturing into the ocean are advised
to research destinations in advance to avoid wildlife encounters and riptides.

adventures, such as skiing and snowboarding, Dr. Evans emphasizes the
