A federal agent was shot in the heel after his gun was knocked from its holster and struck the ground Tuesday morning inside Orlando International Airport.
According to mynews13.com, the federal agent was preparing to board a flight with an approved weapon as the officer approached the east checkpoint inside the Orlando airport at around 11:20 a.m. local time.
The Orlando Police Department released a statement saying that when the agent took off a shoulder bag, the gun was dislodged from its holster and fell toward the ground.
The officer reached down in an attempt to catch the weapon but accidentally pulled the trigger.
When the gun fired, a bullet struck the agent in the heel, but no one else in the area was injured. Local police called to the scene discovered the bullet a few feet away from where the incident occurred.
There were no disruptions to airport operations, and no further information on the incident or condition of the federal agent was released.
