President Donald Trump this week is expected to sign a new executive order that many are calling 'Travel Ban 2.0' after his first order was successfully challenged in federal court.

The president himself said, during his bizarre, hastily called 80-minute press conference on Thursday, that the new ban would be signed "toward the beginning or middle" of this coming week.

"We're issuing a new executive action next week that will comprehensively protect our country," Trump said. "So we'll be going along the one path and hopefully winning that, at the same time we will be issuing a new and very comprehensive order to protect our people."

In January, Trump an executive order banning all travel from seven primarily Muslim countries for 90 days - Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen - due to their alleged ties to terrorism.

It sparked an immediate backlash from those who perceived it to be a Muslim ban, including protesters who rallied at airports across the country.

Last week, judges from the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals refused the administration's request to rescind the hold on the ban.

The new travel ban is expected to have tighter language that would make it easier for the administration to survive lawsuits that would hold up any new executive order.

More details began to emerge of the weekend after Trump's speech.

"I'm told now they have something drafted," Sen. John Thune (R-South Dakota) told The Hill on Friday. "I've not seen what they've done, but I hope they've run all the traps on it."

Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly on Saturday said the administration is working on a "streamlined" version of his original executive order, according to NBC Washington. Speaking at the Munich Security Conference, Kelly said Trump's original order was designed as a "temporary pause" to allow him to "see where our immigration and vetting system has gaps - and gaps it has - that could be exploited."
