A politician from India has been banned from flying on most of the country's airlines following an incident Thursday where he attacked an Air India flight attendant with his slipper.
According to The Guardian, the politician was identified as Ravindra Gaikwad, an MP in India's lower house for the Hindu nationalist Shiv Sena party. He was traveling on an Air India flight from Pune to New Delhi.
Gaikwad allegedly bought a business class ticket but was given an economy seat, and he began complaining to attendants. Eventually, he got into a heated argument with the senior flight attendant.
The attendant was identified as 60-year-old Shivkumar, and he told Gaikwad that he would report his actions to the Indian Prime Minister. As a result of the threat, Gaikwad began striking the senior flight attendant with his slipper, reportedly breaking his glasses and embarrassing him in front of the crew.
Gaikwad admitted to hitting the senior attendant "25 times with a slipper."
