Taking a vacation with a celebrity? It may sound like a fantasy, but Avalon Waterways is making this dream a reality with its popular Storyteller Series of European river cruises.
The newest cruise in the series will feature best-selling author Christopher Moore, the company announced this week.
Called “Waltz Along the Danube,” the 10-day cruise will sail from Vilshofen to Budapest from October 7-16, 2025. The sailing aligns with the debut of Moore’s newest novel, “Anima Rising,” which is set in Vienna in 1911. The book comes out next year.
“I first visited Vienna on an Avalon Waterways cruise a few years ago and I was so taken with the city, I knew I wanted to set a book there,” says Moore. “I can’t wait to go back—this time, introducing readers of my books to the sights, scenes and stories of the city.”
The trip includes two full days in Vienna, as well as stops in Passau, Linz and Melk, Austria; Bratislava, Slovakia; and Visegrád, Hungary.
“This itinerary, as a whole, is incredible,” says Moore. “The architecture of Budapest is stunning and the beauty of the Danube Gorge is one of the most extraordinary bits of nature I’ve ever seen, particularly in the fall. I’m looking forward to visiting the smaller towns along the river, too.”
In 2025, Avalon will be celebrating the fourth anniversary of its Storyteller Series, which has also featured cruises hosted by Diana Gabaldon, Cheryl Strayed, Gillian Flynn and Candace Bushnell.
