For those who dread going off the grid, there is now an airport solution that allows you to bring the Internet along for the ride.
Skyroam has announced that its vending machines are providing Wi-Fi devices that allow a "pocket-sized global hotspot with unlimited Internet service in 100 (plus) countries."
Now, peppered at various airports around the nation, are vending machines that give the savvy traveler a method to grab some Wi-Fi and go. It's as easy as grabbing a Dr. Pepper from the soda machine, but not nearly as delicious.
The website explains that the start-up process is simple. After you register, you get a pass for unlimited Internet access in available countries around the world.
And, at the moment, the price is $99.99 for a Skyroam (available online) and free three-day access. Or you can rent a device for $9.95 a day.
Now you're probably anxious to take these vending machines for a whirl. Via press release, the first ones are now available for patrons meandering about San Francisco International Airport (SFO), Las Vegas McCarran International Airport (LAS), and Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH).

Vending machine access allows users to rent the machines at the $9.95 rate, which comes with a prepaid envelope to send the device back.
Skyroam CEO Jing Liu touts the vending machine access: "This is a huge milestone for Skyroam. Allowing travelers to rent Wi-Fi through our new airport vending machines aligns perfectly with our goal of eliminating the hassles of global connectivity. The vending machine rollout comes at a great time for those who need a quick and convenient Wi-Fi solution during the peak holiday travel season."
Much of this is possible thanks to automated retailer ZoomSystems. Its Chief Revenue Officer David Popler explained: "We are very excited to partner with Skyroam to bring the first global Wi-Fi hotspot rentals to automated retail shops in airports throughout the United States."
As noted, up to five devices can access the Skyroam device simultaneously, which makes this innovation something any traveler should consider amid soaring data costs - especially for those hoping to search the Internet while traveling internationally.
And access comes in the perfect delivery model for someone pressed for time. Participating airports now allow you to stop at a machine, rent a device and get Internet for your trip without missing your flight.
