Mexico City has new culinary food tours courtesy of Eat Like a Local.
Food tours continue to be a popular choice for travelers who want to navigate Mexico City's myriad unique offerings and regional cuisine options. Eat Like a Local gives visitors an insider's view of the city's food scene.
Founder Rocio Vazquez Landeta takes travelers through the streets of this vibrant city to taste, explore and connect with Mexico City's food scene, markets, restaurants and people. The company now offers four new diverse food tours and experiences detailed below.
The Vegan Market & Roma Norte Adventure features local Mexican vegan dishes and includes a mix of vegan restaurants in Roma Norte.
The tour also includes non-vegan restaurants with outstanding vegan dishes and is a dynamic collaboration with Eat Like a Local's founder and Astrid Ceballos, a vegan chef who manages Palacio de Hierro's healthy food. The vegan tour is available Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Enjoy a laid-back culinary safari on the Roma Norte at Night: Mezcal & Pulque tour of the trendy Roma Norte neighborhood. Guests taste street corn covered in mayo, lime, cheese and chili powder as well as tortas found at a hidden food stall. Adventurous foodies can try suadero-brisket cooked in lard for several hours and sprinkled with cilantro and onion, a Mexico City classic.
The tour covers many modern aspects of Mexico City gastronomy and finishes with a warm churro and pulque, a fermented drink made with agave juice often mixed with fruits, caramel or even cookies. The tour officially wraps up with a stop at a trendy mezcal and wine shop where the group can try four different kinds of mezcal, Mexican wine or craft beer. Join these tours Tuesdays to Saturdays starting at 7 p.m.
Families do not have to feel left out of the culinary fun. The Food Tour with Kids starts in the Condesa neighborhood with coffee for the parents and hot chocolate for the kids. This foodie adventure takes parents and kids to the flower market for tacos, quesadillas, candy, corn, ice cream and jicaletas, a Mexican treat made with jicama sprinkled with flavored sugar.
Guides teach kids how to subway surf, and share cool facts about Mexico´s history while they play with corn dough and enjoy a tiny pinata and candy at the end of the tour. The tour runs every day from 10 a.m. t0 2 p.m.
A fun way to recover from a bachelor or bachelorette party is the Food Tour for Bachelors and Bachelorettes, a special culinary journey created specifically for groups the day after. The tour begins with coffee and coconut water at 11:30 a.m. and then visits several street food stalls.
Walking around Roma Norte, guest can experience an alcohol-based ice-cream shop tasting mezcal and passion fruit or margarita sorbet and other great mezcals, Mexican wine or craft beer. These tours are available upon request.
