This summer, why not get away from the heat with a trip to Britain with Insight Vacations?

Insight's six-day Gems of Britain tour is the perfect way to explore this diverse nation while packing in a healthy dollop of culture and spectacular scenery.

Day 1: Overnight Flight. Kick off what will surely be the trip of a lifetime with an overnight flight to Europe. (Be sure to check with Insight about some of the amazing deals they have on offer.)

Day 2: London to Stratford-upon-Avon and Medieval York. The journey begins! Your adventure in Britain will start with a drive to Stratford-upon-Avon, which is perhaps best known as being the birthplace of William Shakespeare, and which today is a charming town in its own right. From there, head north to York, where you will have the chance to visit the Shambles, a street of timber-frame buildings that date back to the 14th century, as well as Northern Europe's largest Gothic cathedral, the York Minster. Later that evening, relax over drinks at a welcome reception and dinner.

Day 3: On to Edinburgh. The third day of the journey takes visitors over the border to Edinburgh, past the ancient Jedburgh Abbey, before arriving for a tour of Edinburgh Castle and Holyroodhouse Palace, where the Queen comes to lay her weary head while in Scotland for the week of Holyrood (late June to early July). Also on the itinerary are Princes Street, the Sir Walter Scott Monument and New Town, which as it dates back to the 18th century isn't all that new, but everything is relative with a history as old as Scotland's. That evening, selected departures will have the chance to attend the Military Tattoo.

Day 4: Lake District and Liverpool. Head on to the English Lake District, famous for its lakes (natch) and stunning scenery. The Lake District offers a little something for everyone from hiking to kayaking. And for those who prefer adventures of a culinary kind, plenty of hearty meals featuring fresh local fare. "Nature never did betray the heart that loved her," wrote William Wordsworth oh so many years ago, and so it is fitting as you leave the Lake District to pay a visit to his grave in Cumbria before heading on to Liverpool.

Day 5: Roman Chester and Cardiff. The medieval city of Chester is a thing of beauty with its half-timbered buildings and the famed covered "Rows," an area of shops which features a second row of stores above street level. Also on tap for the day are a walk through the city and visits to the remains of the Roman Amphitheater, the Eastgate Clock, and the cathedral. Later that day, you will journey to Cardiff for the final night of your tour.

Day 6: Georgian Bath, Stonehenge and London. Return to England by way of the Severn Bridge and a stop in the charming Georgian city of Bath, which has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There, tour original Roman Baths and visit a 15th-century Abbey before heading off to Stonehenge. Everyone loves a mystery and there is perhaps no greater ancient mystery as to just how this iconic structure was built, and why. After an afternoon of exploration, it's off to London and the final stop of your trip.
