Online travel company Expedia Group announced Monday that MGM Resorts International has started using Expedia Powered Technology as the backend technology solution for its package booking platform.
The partnership will allow MGM Resorts to utilize Expedia's technology and access the online travel company's more than 550 airline relationships. The deal also creates leverage for MGM Resorts' package bookings, which represent nearly one-quarter of Expedia's booking to Las Vegas.
"Package bookings are a strategic way for hotels to take advantage of an incremental booking channel that provides a lot of benefits- from longer stays to fewer cancellations," Expedia Group senior vice president Melissa Maher said in a statement. "By leveraging the package booking solution in our Expedia Powered Technology offering, MGM Resorts is able to leverage another customer acquisition avenue in an already strong travel and hospitality market."
"We have long seen Expedia Group as a strategic channel for customer acquisition," MGM Resorts senior vice president and chief sales officer Michael Dominguez said in a statement. "Adding their technology and partner breadth in package bookings to our websites is just one more way we're seeing partner value from them. Las Vegas is one of the top markets for travelers booking packages, so we're adding strength to our customer offering and reach by leveraging Expedia Powered Technology."
Travel agents and clients who use Expedia package options usually book more than two-times further out, stay two-times longer and have one-third the cancellation rate.
Expedia is one of world's largest travel platforms and leverages its technology to orchestrate the movement of people and the delivery of travel experiences on both a local and global scale.
