Popular Destinations Planning to Re-Open to Tourists in June

Many places have loosened COVID-19 travel restrictions in recent weeks while other coveted destinations are planning to lift bans on visitors in the month to come. Here are some of the most notable places opening to tourists in June.

Quintana Roo has pushed back its reopening date beyond June 1. Nonetheless, the state's governor, Carlos Joaquín González is advising hotels in the Cancun and Riviera Maya region to prepare for reopening as early as June 8 or 10.

Saint Lucia's phased reopening is set to begin June 4 as officials prepare to open Hewanorra International Airport for flights from the U.S. and ready as many as 1,500 hotel rooms for summer visitors.

Greece is on schedule to reopen to foreign visitors by mid-June. The country plans to allow travelers from approved countries to arrive only through Athens International Airport beginning June 15 before eventually extending the order to all of the country's airports on July 1.

The Florida Keys will reopen to travelers on June 1, with hotels limited to 50 percent occupancy during the initial phase of reopening. Officials plan to discuss potential revisions to occupancy restrictions in mid-June.

Like Saint Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda anticipate welcoming international visitors as soon as June 4, with American Airlines, Caribbean Airlines and British Airways set to resume flights in the days and weeks to come.

Italian officials recently approved plans to allow travel from within the European Union on June 3. However, visitors traveling from elsewhere, including overseas will have to wait until at least June 15.

Aruba has yet to establish an official reopening date. However, the island has announced tentative plans for reopening to tourists sometime between June 15 and July 2020. "We want all visitors to feel reassured in traveling to our One Happy Island, knowing we worked together as a nation to implement the highest health and safety protocols through every step of their journey," Danguillaume Oduber, Minister of Tourism, Public Health and Sport of Aruba, said in a statement earlier this month.

Iceland is preparing to reopen its borders on June 15. Starting then, visitors will have the option to be tested for coronavirus or spend 14 days in quarantine out of precaution.

The U.S. Virgin Islands will reopen to leisure travelers beginning June 1. The territory has also established a comprehensive guide called the "Health and Safety Guidelines for the USVI Tourism Industry" to ensure hotels, restaurants and other businesses take the proper health and hygiene measures to ensure visitors' safety.

According to Reuters, International visitors will be permitted to enter the United Kingdom next month but they'll be required to self-isolate for at least 14 days. The new measure takes effect on June 8 and also applies to citizens returning from overseas.
