2023 Pet-Friendly Vacation Ideas

Traveling with your beloved dog or cat can be a ton of fun, but it only works if you can find a place that's relatively pet-friendly. This typically means finding a pet-inclusive hotel or resort, or searching for a vacation rental that is happy to let you bring your furry friend along for the ride. You'll also want to focus on a destination that offers a place to spend time with your pet, whether you opt for a big city with plenty of dog parks or a tourist destination where pets are welcomed in restaurants.

But, where should you bring your pet in 2023? Since destinations don't normally outlaw pets but hotels and resorts definitely do, it makes sense to start your search with a list of properties that will welcome your four-legged friend with open arms.

Whether you are thinking of visiting Boston, Chicago or New York City over the next year, consider this list of pet-friendly hotels and resorts and all they have to offer.

Massanutten Resort: Massanutten, Virginia

If you have an interest in skiing, golfing or spending time outdoors, a stay at Massanutten Resort with your pet should be on your agenda. This award-winning resort allows up to two dogs (up to 70 lbs. each) per reservation, although a $225 per dog pet fee is required.

There are actually 20 different dog-friendly condos available at the property, including condominiums that sleep up to 12 guests. Massanutten allows dogs in outdoor parks, dog-friendly condo areas and outside dining venues as well, so your furry best friend can spend time outdoors enjoying the trip.

Canine Camp Getaway: Pennsylvania and New York

Canine Camp Getaway is a one-of-a-kind vacation that's geared specifically to dogs and their owners. This property offers dog-friendly activities active pooches love, including swimming, agility, frisbee, flyball and more. Dog-friendly entertainment is also offered.

The camp offers three vacation events per year, which will take place in 2023 on the following dates: June 9-13 in Gettysburg, PA, and two held in the Catskills of NY in East Durham, Sept 25-28 and Sept 28-Oct 1.

The Charleston Place: Charleston, South Carolina

The Charleston Place is not only an iconic landmark in the heart of Charleston's historic district, but it's also a pet-friendly hotel. This property has even introduced a new in-room pet dining menu with fresh, dog-friendly meals like roasted checking with rice.

Guests can even book a "Pet in Residence" package that includes a dog bed, food and water bowls, daily treats, a dog-walking session, a two-hour dog-sitting session and a 20-minute pet photography session, to name a few perks.

Barnsley Resort: Adairsville, Georgia

Georgia's Barnsley Resort is located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on 3,000 acres, so it's ideal for travelers who want to spend time outdoors with their pet. The resort property boasts miles of wooded hiking trails with various architectural ruins to explore, and there are also landscaped gardens for pets to check out.

While not all rooms are pet-friendly, Barnsley Resort has pet-friendly accommodations in select cottages with features like pet beds, bottled water, food and water bowls and treats. Barnsley Resort is also a proud partner of PAWS Atlanta, so a portion of each pet fee is donated to help orphaned animals receive care until they can find a home.

Hyatt Centric Las Olas: Fort Lauderdale, Florida

The Hyatt Centric Los Olas in Fort Lauderdale is close to quite a few popular dog beaches in the area, including Barkyard N' Brews dog park. The property also allows up to two pets per room (up to 50 lbs. each) with an additional fee per pet that includes bowls and treats.

Visitors can even bring their dog to the property's swanky 8th-floor pool deck and bar, where they can indulge in drinks and light bites with their pet in tow.

Carmel Valley Ranch: Carmel, California

Located on 500 beautiful acres of ranchland, Carmel Valley Ranch is a pet-friendly resort that is part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. This California property offers on-site dining, access to golf and tennis and beautiful views in every direction.

Pet-friendly amenities include plush dog beds and bowls for food and water, as well as waste bags. Like other luxury resorts where pets are welcome, Carmel Valley also offers a dog-friendly room service menu with freshly prepared cuisine options for your canine companion.

Ambassador Chicago: Chicago, Illinois

Ambassador Chicago is another Hyatt property that lets travelers bring their beloved pets along for the ride, and it's located in an excellent downtown location that's close to iconic Chicago landmarks like Magnificent Mile and Water Tower Place.

This resort offers a PAWsome Experience package with amenities like a custom dog treat, a dog toy from the hotel's pet boutique, Ambassador-branded dog food and food and water bowls.

Hotel 50 Bowery: New York, New York

New York City is frequently listed as one of the best cities for walking your dog throughout the United States, and it's easy to see why. There are an endless number of city blocks and parks to explore, and there's something new and interesting to smell and investigate around every corner.

New York's Hotel 50 Bowery allows furry friends to check in with their owners, and dog beds and food and water bowls are provided, too. Located in historic Chinatown, this property also has a fitness center, a concierge and an on-site restaurant.

Wilmington KOA Holiday: Wilmington, North Carolina

If your idea of vacation is camping with your pet at the beach, you'll want to check out the Wilmington KOA Holiday in Wilmington, North Carolina. This campground is located in a beautiful location along the Atlantic Ocean, and it's not too far from one of the most popular dog beaches in the state.

Pet-friendly amenities at Wilmington KOA Holiday include KampK9, a bark park with agility equipment and a nature trail for exploration.

Tenaya at Yosemite: Fish Camp, California

Tenaya at Yosemite is a AAA Four Diamond-rated resort that is located just outside the entrance to Yosemite National Park in California. As a result, the property boasts beautiful views in every direction while letting weary guests spend time relaxing in the great outdoors.

The property has quite a few dog-friendly room options that require a one-time pet fee for up to two dogs. With each pet-friendly reservation, customers get perks like dog bowls and a dog bed in their room. A concierge sheet with tips and doggie do's and don'ts is also included.

The Clancy, Autograph Collection: San Francisco, California

The Clancy is located in the heart of the SoMa neighborhood in San Francisco, and it is home to 410 separate guest rooms as well as a lobby bar, a restaurant, a coffee shop and more.

Pets are welcome at this hotel, and the property even offers special pets packages that come with a comfortable pet bed, food and water bowls, waste removal bags and a "doggy robe" included. The property also offers a puppy dinner menu in their on-site restaurants, and cats are also welcome.

Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel: Omaha, Nebraska

Omaha's Kimpton Cottonwood Hotel allows pets regardless of their size, weight or breed, and there are no additional pet fees to pay. This dog-friendly hotel also includes food and water dishes, pet mats, soft pet beds, and bags for waste removal in its pet-friendly guest rooms, and the concierge is happy to provide you with a list of nearby pet-friendly restaurants, parks and stores.

The Omaha, Nebraska hotel also has a partnership with Wag!, which makes it easy for you to set up dog walking and pet care services during your stay.

Viceroy Snowmass: Snowmass Village, Colorado

Viceroy Snowmass is an Aspen, Colorado luxury resort that is ideal for families who love outdoor adventure sports. However, this property is also pet-friendly. In fact, Viceroy Snowmass has its own dog, which is frequently found welcoming guests and leading hikes on the property.

Royal Palms Resort and Spa: Scottsdale, Arizona

The St. Gregory Hotel: Washington D.C.

The St. Gregory Hotel in Washington D.C. is pet-friendly to the max, and it even lets pets dine with their owners on their own patio at the St. Greg Kitchen & Bar. There are also pet-friendly rooms to choose from, and pets get amenities like gourmet dog treats, personalized dog bowls and comfortable dog beds.

The Envoy Hotel: Boston, Massachusetts

This means travelers can bring cats and small dogs to the hotel, after which the entire crew can enjoy the luxurious amenities at the resort.

Pets that tag along to this Orlando, Florida hotel even get some special perks, including a toy, food and water bowls and waste bags. The property also has ample outdoor spaces for pets to get out and enjoy the fresh air. There are also designated pet relief areas dotted throughout the resort.

Camp Margaritaville RV Resort & Lodge Pigeon Forge: Pigeon Forge, Tennessee

Camp Margaritaville RV Resort & Lodge is the newest RV resort in the heart of the Smoky Mountains, and it's also welcoming and friendly to both cats and dogs. While you can bring your own RV to stay at the resort, the on-site lodge is a full-service hotel that also welcomes pets.

Pet-friendly amenities include a Barkaritaville Pet Park, as well as plenty of open space to sniff and explore. Humans who visit will also love the double loop water slide, hot tub and fire pit and the on-site lazy river.
