There appears to be peace between Alaska Airlines
management and its flight attendants.
Alaska has reportedly reached
a tentative agreement on a new contract with its flight
attendants. It still has to be ratified by the 7,000 members of the union.
Terms of the deal has not been disclosed.
The union, however, seems to be satisfied as it called it
a record-breaking deal. It was asking for a retroactive pay raise of at least
43 percent based on seniority.
“Your actions over the last two years of bargaining …
ensured we had the leverage to extract every last dollar from Alaska Airlines
management,” the union said Friday in a statement to its members.
Alaska Airlines posted a gracious statement following the
talks on Friday.
“With our combined efforts, we’ve been able to reach an
agreement that provides quality of life and continued career growth at Alaska,”
the airline said in a statement.
This has been an ongoing saga for almost two years. In
February of this year, the flight attendants voted to go on strike with more
than 99 percent of its members voting to walk. Southwest Airlines earlier
avoided a strike by reaching a deal with its flight attendant.
United
Airlines and American Airlines are
still involved in talks with
their flight attendants.
