Travelers with fall trips in Europe will now have access to a new in-flight amenity with Austrian Airlines.
The Vienna-based carrier officially launched its first flight with high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi on board.
The carrier’s first plane with the ultra-fast connectivity is a brand new Airbus A320neo, which operated a flight from Vienna to Porto, Portugal.
Starlink allows travelers to stream content, send messages, and edit documents in real time just like on the ground. That level of connection is quickly becoming the standard that passengers expect across the airline industry.
The amenity is “increasingly becoming a core requirement for our passengers in all travel classes,” Austrian Airlines said in a release. Travelers with a Miles & More loyalty account with the airline can connect to the Wi-Fi for free.
The carrier, which is part of the Lufthansa Group, plans to have 20 aircraft enabled with Starlink by the end of the 2026/27 winter season.
The addition of the high-speed Wi-Fi is part of a larger product modernization initiative at Austrian Airlines, which includes an investment of billions of euros into new aircraft, fitting its Boeing 787 fleet with new premium economy seats, and adding more than 50,000 square feet of new lounge space at the Vienna airport.
Lufthansa Group is partnering with Starlink to equip its 850 aircraft across all of its subsidiary airlines with the ultra-fast network.
