Budget fliers traveling with one of the biggest low-cost airlines in the United States will soon have access to a trendy new in-flight amenity.
Frontier Airlines has announced plans to launch its first plane equipped with Starlink Wi-Fi in 2027.
The carrier says it will be the first airline in the U.S. to access the high-speed, low-latency Wi-Fi through “a new system managed directly by Starlink.”
Frontier and its fellow Indigo Portfolio carriers Wizz Air (Europe), Volaris (Mexico), JetSMART (South America), and Cebu Pacific (Philippines) plan to install the ultra-fast Wi-Fi on about 1,000 aircraft.
Starlink is becoming a popular choice for carriers in the U.S. and around the globe who want to add Wi-Fi to their in-flight experience that offers a similar experience to using the internet on the ground.
With Starlink, passengers can stream videos and music, play games with no lag, and edit online documents in real time.
Budget carriers have begun adding Starlink-equipped planes to their fleets, with Southwest Airlines launching its first plane with Starlink capability this summer.
"We're continuing to invest in the products and services that matter most to our customers," said Frontier’s CEO Jimmy Dempsey. "Starlink transforms the onboard experience, giving customers the flexibility to work, stream, browse, and stay connected throughout their journey.”
In addition to giving passengers Starlink access, Frontier has been enhancing its onboard experience with new products like first class seats and expanded loyalty benefits in hopes of attracting more premium travelers.
