In another move to save money and increase fuel efficiency, Boeing announced Monday at the European Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition that Split Scimitar Winglets are now standard on new all new business jets.
According to Boeing, the company's business jets will be the first in their class to offer the winglets as a standard option. The new Split Scimitar Winglets were designed by Aviation Partners Boeing, and will also be available to retrofit on all existing business jets.
The advantage of installing the new winglets is that they can help add 2.2 percent more range to a 6,000 nautical mile mission, giving the airlines increased performance and flexibility.
Boeing Business Jets (BBJ) president, David Longridge, released a statement about the addition of the winglets to new and existing planes, saying, "We are very excited to offer the Split Scimitar Winglet for our current BBJ family. It is another example of our dedication to continuous improvement for the BBJ family, and we think our customers will enjoy the increased performance and design."
What separates the Split Scimitar Winglet from other incarnations of wing tips is that it takes the existing blended winglet and adds a scimitar tip and downward strake, resulting in the range extension of over two percent.

The Boeing Business Jets offer the space and luxury the private jet market is looking for. The product line includes the BBJ and BBJ MAX family of planes and Boeing widebody airplanes including the BBJ 787, 777 and 747-8.
For those who want to see the Split Scimitar Winglets installed on one of the BBJ, an example is being shown during the European Business Aviation Conference & Exhibition in Switzerland through May 21.
