Breeze Airways Unveils Dramatic Growth Plan For Coming Years

Breeze Airways, which has been around for just three years, has revealed plans to significantly step-up its service offerings.

In particular the fledgling airline intends to increase its service at Rhode Island’s T.F. Green International Airport, the company's founder and CEO, David Neeleman, explained during an interview with The Points Guy.

Established in 2021, Breeze currently offers about 132 weekly flights to about 18 destinations.  That figure may increase to as many as 35 destinations over the next five years and 200 non-stop flights, TPG reported.

The low-cost airline is also planning to expand its offerings to include three international destinations, Neelman told TPG.

"We've been chomping at the bit to do international for a little bit here," Neeleman said.

As of this fall, Breeze is slated to have nine operating bases, three of which will be in Florida. That includes a Fort Myers base that is scheduled to open in October, and two New England locations, which includes its current base in Providence. The third will be at Connecticut’s Bradley International Airport.

The carrier’s expansion in Rhode Island, however, will include having as many as 12 jets at the airport and increasing its staff there to about 400.

"We always say, if we're going to add a city, we add four or five destinations — and if those fill up, we'll keep adding," Neeleman told TPG. "We see there's a clear path to 35 different places we can fly to [from Providence]. The airport's been supportive, the governor, everyone."

The expansion efforts focused on Providence include Breeze seeking interline agreements with international carriers in the coming years in order to allow Providence to grow to more of a broadly-used hub for international air routes.

As for Breeze’s own plans to add more international destinations to its line-up, the specifics have not yet been ironed out. 

"Anywhere we can draw a seven-hour circle around Providence," Neeleman told TPG. ”We have a lot of flexibility that we could do: Canada, Mexico, Caribbean, even some places in Central America.”

As TravelPulse reported in February, the airline is also working to fly an entirely A220-300 fleet by the end of 2024. The airline has said that the A220s offer an elevated experience and more sustainable operations.
