The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a close call between two Southwest Airlines planes that passed nearly 500 feet from one another at Nashville International Airport on Saturday, April 19.
According to ABC News, the incident occurred at 5:30 p.m. local time at Nashville, when air traffic controllers told Southwest Flight 507 to “execute a precautionary go-around,” said Southwest Airlines.
When that go-around occurred due to gusty winds that made landing difficult, the flight ended up in the path of another Southwest flight taking off from a runway parallel to Southwest Flight 507.
Pilots on both flights responded to onboard proximity alerts.
Flight 507 landed without issue following the close call. Flight 1152, which was taking off, was able to take off normally.
"Southwest appreciates the professionalism of its Pilots and Flight Crews in responding to the event," the airline said in an official statement. "Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees."
