The governor of Florida signed a new bill on Monday that
would rename Palm Beach International Airport after the current President of
the United States, Donald Trump.
According to ABCNews.com,
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed legislation to rename the airport the sitting
President uses when visiting his Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida.
The proposed change would rename the facility President
Donald J. Trump International Airport.
The bill passed the Florida House and Senate in February,
and Gov. DeSantis’ office told ABC that the Palm Beach facility would be
renamed for President Trump if the name change is approved by the Federal
Aviation Administration (FAA) and receives rights agreements.
The law will take effect on July 1. In response, the FAA
shared a statement on the legislation:
“Changing an airport name is a local issue and the FAA does
not approve airport name changes. However, the FAA must complete some
administrative tasks to include updating navigational charts and databases.”
The White House also responded to the new law, as Deputy
Chief of Staff Stephen Miller reposted a message from President Trump’s son,
Eric, thanking the Florida governor, Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier,
and others for the honor.
