After it was first announced in April and the custom livery was revealed in September, Japanese airline All Nippon Airways has finally started flying a regular schedule with its "Star Wars"-themed airplane.
According to a report from Oliver Gettell of Entertainment Weekly, the All Nippon Airways Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner designed to look like popular "Star Wars" character R2-D2 landed in Vancouver, British Columbia, Sunday after its inaugural paid flight from Haneda Airport in Tokyo, Japan.
Before the plane's first official international journey with paying customers, the R2-D2-themed aircraft was part of a brief fan-appreciation flight over Haneda that was attended by diehard "Star Wars" enthusiasts. Passengers on the flight dressed as Stormtroopers, droids, Jedi and many other characters.
The official Twitter of All Nippon Airways shared an image of the 'Star Wars' fans:
For fans of the movie series in the United States who would love to book a flight on the "Star Wars" plane, All Nippon Airways has stated that San Jose, California, will be the base of operation for the custom-painted aircraft through November.
In December, the plane will be moved and will call Seattle, Washington, its temporary home.
In addition to the R2-D2 plane flying the skies now, there will be adding another themed plane next year. The BB-8 aircraft will be designed for the character from the upcoming movie, "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
