Want to Own a Dog? Adopt One From the TSA

Are you thinking about adopting a dog? One unexpected place to look for your new best friend would be from the Transportation Security Administration canine adoption services.

Thanks to the TSA's official website, families looking to add a pet can adopt the animals that are deemed unsuitable for training and employment as bomb and drug-sniffing dogs. Also available are older dogs, retiring from TSA service.

All adoptions are free for those interested, but there is an application process and several requirements before someone can qualify to adopt one of the animals.

While all of the dogs are spayed or neutered and receive a complete physical, new owners are still required to provide veterinary care as needed. And there are a few more hoops to jump through: applicants must have acceptable housing arrangements and be able to pick up the dog from the TSA animal shelter in San Antonio, Texas.

Road Warrior Voices is reporting the TSA canine adoption program was set up in 2011, and it has helped place over 100 dogs in "new homes or transferred them to other law enforcement agencies."
