WATCH: Lightning Strikes Delta Plane

A spectacular piece of video footage is making the viral rounds - not to mention the media rounds - after an amateur videographer captured a one-in-a-million shot.

A Delta Air Lines plane, one of several backed up on the runway at Atlanta's Hartfield-Jackson International Airport, was struck by lightning on Wednesday with more than 100 passengers and crew aboard.

A man in the terminal just happened to be filming the line of jets backed up on the runway, creating an unbelievable image of a giant flash. When the video is slowed down, you can actually see the lightning bolt strike the plane near the tail section. Just prior, you can also hear passengers talking about the weather, with one woman saying "just as long as it's safe."

All the passengers and crew were fine; airplanes are designed to withstand lightning strikes and, in fact, are struck more often than you think while flying.

On the ground? That's a new one.
