Officials from the Mexican resort city of Acapulco revealed the $217 million infrastructure projects currently ongoing are expected to be completed within the next two months.
According to Mexico News Daily, the construction projects include a new airport terminal building and a highway bypass, both of which were visited Monday by Governor Hector Astudillo Flores and federal transportation official Gerardo Ruiz Esparza.
The new terminal building at General Juan N. Alvarez International Airport in Acapulco is being built to withstand earthquakes and hurricanes. The facility measures 19,000-square-meters and will feature a 3,600-square-meter departure lounge, six boarding gates, six self-check-in kiosks, 34 check-in service counters and more.
Ruiz Esparza described the airport building as a “world-class terminal, one the beautiful port of Acapulco deserves,” per Mexico News Daily. Add in the fact the city is a major hub of national and international visitors, and the new terminal is expected to have a direct and positive impact on the tourism industry.
In addition, the highway bypass will cut travel times to and from the western side of Acapulco, which should reduce travel costs and increase efficiency and security. The project is also expected to contribute to the productive, environmental and social development of the region.
Mexico has been thriving, as the country recently brought home a total of 18 awards during the2018 Travvy Awards, including Best Individual Resort for the Hyatt Ziva Cancun and Best Wedding Destination for Riviera Maya.
