November turned out to be a good month for Delta Air Lines as it continues its ongoing battle for Seattle with Alaska Air Group subsidiary Alaska Airlines.
According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Delta reported this week that it's combined passenger unit revenue rose 4.5 percent this past month.
What's more, Delta carried more than 2.6 million passengers on 28,000-plus flights during the recent Thanksgiving holiday. As a result, the Atlanta-based airline concluded November with a monthly completion factor of 99.9 percent and an on-time arrival rate of 86.6 percent.
For the entire month, Delta carried close to 13,272,000 passengers, a 5.9 percent increase over November 2013.
Meanwhile, Alaska Air Group, the parent company of Alaska Airlines, announced that its group load factor grew to 82.3 percent for November, compared to 81.7 percent in November 2013.
Alaska Airlines reported a 9.8 percent increase in traffic as well as a 0.6 percent rise in load factor. However, regional carrier Horizon Air saw less success, reporting a 1.4 percent increase in traffic and a 1.1 percent decline in load factor for November.
While Delta and Alaska Air Group will shift their focus to generating more growth in December, both have reason to move forward with optimism based on November's numbers.
