Cunard Line has just remastered its flagship Queen Mary 2 to the tune of $132 million, and we've got the tips for how to best partake in it all.

Take Advantage of Unique Perspectives

Not only does the QM2 have its great Commodore Club observation lounge, but it also has several other areas in which to gaze upon the passing scenery or the ship itself. In fact, there are two forward observation decks overlooking the bow - one extending to the bridge wings for aft-facing views as well - and unique glass elevators that skirt the backside of the forecastle for taking a scenic vertical ride. Plus, there is even a bridge viewing area that is open at certain hours of the day to take a peek at the ship's fascinating navigational operations.

Mind the Mezzanine Levels

The Queen Mary 2 has a very distinct layout as the only genuine ocean liner sailing today, and some venues ordinarily found at the very front or back of cruise ships are more centered away from any seesawing motion. So, in order to pass by the full-width Britannia Restaurant and Royal Court Theatre, guests can walk through side mezzanine corridors. It's less of a maze than you might think so long as you study the deck plans before boarding, and the passageways themselves are lined with great windows and seating for playing board games as well as perusing the art gallery.

Queue Up Early

As a liner designed for extended periods at sea on transatlantic crossings, there is greater passenger interest in every onboard activity than on other port-centric cruise ships. Consequently, it's wise to arrive early to shows for the best views and to line up in some cases for complimentary but limited planetarium tickets and seats or popular dining events like elegant afternoon tea time.

Enjoy Godiva at Sir Samuel's

Speaking of eats, the Sir Samuel's coffee bar was made into a Godiva chocolate bar during the recent remastering, and it is without a doubt a must-try venue. The confections here are incredibly decadent and easily the best value on the ship. Massive chocolate sundaes - the best I have ever had - are only $4.95, and the equally reasonable fondues are also worthy of your tongue's undivided attention.

Get the Canyon Ranch SpaClub Thermal Suite Pass

Another great value onboard is the thermal suite pass at the Canyon Ranch SpaClub. Access is included with spa treatments, but if you're interested only in the therapeutic relaxation room, thalassotherapy pool, sauna and steam rooms; a one-day, three-day (our $75 preference) or cruise pass is worth the cost to enter the exclusive restful retreat.

Make Reservations at The Verandah Restaurant

If you're looking for a more secluded dining experience away from the hustle and bustle of the main dining room, the new Verandah Restaurant is a wonderful specialty option with more attentive service and elevated French and Spanish-inspired cuisine. The surcharge is $35 for dinner and $20 for lunch.

Bring the Pets

Traveling with your pets on other cruise ships is not generally an allowed option, but on the Queen Mary 2, it is encouraged. The ship has dedicated kennel facilities that were recently expanded. Now your cats and dogs can even enjoy a Liverpool lamp post and New York fire hydrant on their own outdoor walking deck.
