As many have said, who would have thought two or three decades ago that you would be paying to drink water?
Not only are you paying to drink bottled water on Carnival Cruise Line, but for the second time in a year, the company has raised the price of agua.
And it’s expensive.
In less than two years, the price of a 12-pack of bottled water has increased by 141 percent.
It will now set you back $11.95 for a 12-pack of bottles that are standard 16.9 fluid ounces; $4.50 for the 1.5 liter (50.72 fluid ounces) bottles; and $24.95 for an 8-pack of 1.5-liter bottles. While that is more than, say, a grocery store, it is less expensive than some convenience stores.
A year ago, however, the 12-pack of water was $4.95. The 1.5-liter bottle had been at $3.95 for more than three years.
Cruise Line Brand Ambassador John Heald said: “Yes, prices did go up a bit recently with our bottled water because of inflation which I know many of you are facing on land as well.”
Bottled water prices are the same across the Carnival fleet, whether guests pre-purchase the water to have it waiting in their stateroom or order it out while having dinner at one of the cruise ship's restaurants.
Perhaps the increase in bottled water prices is to help pay for the plethora of thrill rides and roller coasters on ships these days.
