Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) officially christened its newest vessel, Norwegian Aqua, in Miami today. Alongside the celebration, the company revealed ambitious plans to transform Great Stirrup Cay—its private destination in The Bahamas—with a host of new amenities aimed at travelers of all ages. Set to debut in the fourth quarter of 2025, the arrival of these enhancements will coincide with the completion of a new multi-ship pier at the private island paradise.
“These newly announced enhancements to Great Stirrup Cay will further improve the guest experience on the island, which is already one of our top-rated destinations worldwide,” said Harry Sommer, president and chief executive officer of Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd. “Along with the completion of a new multi-ship pier later this year, we’re improving both access and amenities on the island. As we anticipate annual guest visits to exceed one million by 2026, we are actively evaluating additional investments in the island to support that growth and expand the amenities our guests can enjoy.”
Guests visiting the reimagined island will be greeted by a new welcome center and a convenient tram system designed to make island exploration effortless. At the heart of the expansion is an oversized heated pool area. This sun-drenched escape will include a swim-up bar, inviting loungers and private cabanas, allowing adults to keep the good times flowing with their beverage packages even while ashore. Younger visitors will enjoy a dedicated splash pad equipped with playful water features and fountains.

NCL is also bringing some of its most popular onboard experiences to land. The adults-only Vibe Beach Club, known for its upscale outdoor lounge area and private cabanas, will debut on the island. Meanwhile, families can gather at the new Horizon Park—which recently debuted on Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Breakaway—a vibrant outdoor recreation area offering lawn games and various activities for the whole family to enjoy.
In keeping with the island’s laid-back Bahamian charm, the upgrades and new amenities will also include a tranquil relaxation zone with hammocks swaying under the palms and Tiki-inspired elements that embody the tropical spirit of the destination.
