The first dog-friendly cruise officially has a name: Tails of the Sea.
Shawn Loomis submitted the winning pick during a naming contest for the cruise, which is slated to depart from Tampa in November 2025 aboard Margaritaville at Sea’s flagship vessel, The Islander. As the winner, Loomis will get a free human-only cruise for two thanks to Margaritaville at Sea.
“Thank you to everyone who participated in the cruise naming competition. It was amazing to see such enthusiastic participation from our community, and we appreciate all of the creative names shared,” says Steve Matzke, who leads Cruise Tails, the company organizing the voyage in partnership with Expedia Cruises of West Orlando. “We will be opening more contest opportunities and are excited to give our community more chances to sail.”
Cruise Tails has also unveiled the itinerary for the trip. The seven-night sailing will visit Key West, Progresso and Cozumel, with additional pre-cruise events to be announced at a later date.
The company also accepted the first round of applications and has filled some of the cabins on the ship. The second round of applications will soon follow. Guests who are still interested in sailing with their pup should apply as soon as possible, the company says.
Cruise Tails hopes to offer additional pet-friendly voyages in 2026 if all goes well on this first attempt.
