Belize is such a beautiful nation and one of the most popular vacation spots in the world. Tourists flock here to scuba dive in the Great Blue Hole and swim in the Belize Barrier Reef, which is part of the longest barrier reef system in the Western Hemisphere.

Belize is also known for its luscious landscape, so it only makes sense that Norwegian Cruise Line developed a resort here so their cruisers can enjoy a close-up view.

Harvest Caye opens this month and is the only Belize port that features a cruise ship pier, so guests can walk from the boat right to the resort. Travelers can choose to spend their time sitting on the white, sandy, seven-acre beach or soak in the 15,000 square-foot pool, where you can swim right up to the bar and enjoy a beverage. Relax afterward in a personal cabana that features concierge food and beverage service.

There are luxury enclosed villas for guests who want some additional privacy and pampering. The villas are equipped with air conditioning, lounge and dining areas, a private restroom, indoor and outdoor showers, hammocks, and exclusive dining and beverage options with dedicated concierge service.

Thrillists will love The Flighthouse at the resort, a 130-foot high venue that features 3,000 feet of zip lining across the island and free fall jumps. The resort offers plenty of water activities, like kayaking, paddle boarding and canoeing, and manatee observations led by tour guides. If you would rather shop till you drop, the port offers name-brand retailers at their shopping village, or shop local first and buy an item from a Belizean craftsman.

Belize is noted for its wildlife and conservation efforts and Harvest Caye provides a unique opportunity to talk with Tony Garel, the destination's Chief Naturalist, an award-winning author and the tour guide for the resort's conservation programs. Talk to Garel about the island's wildlife as well, since Belize is also home to an aviary that has a breed and release program for the stunning Scarlet Macaws.

Guests who want to explore the nation of Belize can select one of several excursions. Explore saltwater mangrove estuaries or tour the ancient Mayan archeological site of Nim Li Punit. River tube to the foot of the Maya Mountains or parasail hundreds of feet in the air for a spectacular view of Belize.

All of these activities and explorations build up a voracious appetite and Harvest Caye has plenty of options to settle the pangs. Norwegian partnered with Jimmy Buffett to offer his famous Margaritaville restaurant. There is also The Landshark Bar & Grill, a two-story indoor/outdoor restaurant. There are five dining and bar outlets around the property that feature a variety of cuisines, including the Laughing Bird Bar & Grill which serves the beachgoers, the Manatee Marina Bar & Grill in the marina, and the Horse-Eye Jack Bar & Grill servicing the island's cabanas.

This new Norwegian Cruise Lines port of call will accommodate their Western Caribbean Cruises and the Escape, Getaway, Dawn, Pearl and Jade cruise ships. It is also available on their sister brands Regent Seven Seas Cruises and Oceania Cruises, which will also offer calls at Harvest Caye on select Caribbean cruises.
