Windstar Cruises will update its classic sailing yachts during a new multi-year, multi-million-dollar project, the company revealed today.
Between now and 2026, the small ship line plans to update its three Wind Class ships: Wind Star, Wind Spirit and Wind Surf. The initiative aims to create spaces that “inspire relaxation, foster connection and offer multifunctional needs,” says Stijn Creupelandt, Windstar’s vice president of hotel operations and product development.
“Spending time on our yachts is all about moments of connection, whether that be guest-to-guest or guest-to-crew, and we want to make sure our spaces reflect that desire,” he adds.
Crews have already completed the first phase of construction on Wind Star, which can accommodate up to 148 guests. They refreshed the vessel’s lobby, lounge, spa and fitness center and pool deck; added new artwork; installed additional WiFi access points; and added larger TVs in every cabin. Next, starting in 2026, the cruse line plans to renovate Wind Star’s staterooms, the main dining room and its lunch and breakfast restaurant.

For the refreshed aesthetic, interior designers drew inspiration from class and modern yacht architecture. Then, they added “pops of fun and peeks of relief inspired by our sails, the sea, the cities we visit and our guests,” says Jessica Payne, who manages interior design for the cruise line.
“Stepping into the lobby as you embark is about feeling a sense of stepping onto your own private yacht but experiencing the service of a luxury boutique hotel,” she adds.
Wind Surf, which is much larger at 342 guests, will undergo two phases of renovations in 2024 and 2026. All of the ship’s public areas will be refreshed with new layouts, lighting, furniture, floor coverings, art and more. The staterooms and suites will also get new decor, furniture and interactive televisions.
The 148-passenger Wind Spirit, meanwhile, will get a total overhaul by 2025.
This latest initiative comes on the heels of Windstar’s $250 million makeover of Star Breeze, Star Legend and Star Pride.
That project included cutting Star Breeze completely in half and adding a new section.
