Athens Tourism Board Reports City Returning to Normal

ATEDCo, the official tourism board of Athens, Greece, is reporting that the city is returning to normal after the rioting that rocked the city last week. Christmas festivities in Athens commenced on Dec. 16, with the lighting of the city's Christmas tree at Syntagma Square at 7:30 p.m. The festivities had been suspended due to recent tragic events for which the City of Athens took immediate action, placing the highest priority on repairing the damages rapidly and bringing back to its citizens the festive spirit. Syntagma Square was filled with the melodies of the City of Athens Philharmonic Orchestra and songs of the Children's Choir, until the moment Athens Mayor Nikitas Kaklamanis gave the signal for the lighting of the Christmas tree and illumination of the city with festive lights and stated, "this is a time of goodwill and celebration, I invite you all to make this year's Christmas one to remember." Fireworks lit up Athens' skies, making the start of the celebration, as the City of Athens has planned a series of Christmas and New Year's events. Christmas in Athens is filled, this year, with central squares lit, with carolers and holiday spirit.
