If adding infrastructure elements to something as significant as the Great Wall of China, you better make sure that it's just as impressive-or, at least, try to get close.
There won't be any worries in that regard according to a Guardian report that states officials are planning to build the deepest, largest train depot at one of the more popular sections of arguably the most famed wall in the world.
According to the report, the country is in the initial throes of turning various sites into those that accept the kind of tourism commensurate with a Winter Olympics.
The area of Badaling is already inundated with tourists who want to glean images and memories from the iconic and long-reaching wall that meanders about the landscape. At about 50 miles from Beijing, it will soon boast another gigantic installation that will serve to help get locals and travelers to their destinations via high-speed rail.
The Guardian quotes Chen Bin who is the director of China Railway No 5 engineering group. Chen explained what we can expect in the near future: "The Badaling station will be located 102m (335ft) below the surface, with an underground construction area of 36,000sqm (387,501sqft), equal to five standard soccer fields, making it the deepest and largest high-speed railway station in the world."

Various websites tout Badaling as the go-to destination for those who want to snap off pictures and amble about the prolific wall, but a station of this size is needed for other reasons.
Beijing will be the landing destination for the 2022 Winter Olympics, allowing China to once again welcome the world to its grandeur. Judging by the description of the station, it's prepared to wow visitors with marvelously built structures as it did ahead of the 2008 Summer Olympics.
When you need to chisel your way deep into the inner recesses under a treasured landmark, you naturally blast your way to the goal line.
Not to worry, because the report states officials will use advanced explosion technologies to carve out what is sure to be a bustling and truly captivating train depot.
