The Water District, a $220 million development in Fort Lauderdale set on the Intracoastal Waterway, is scheduled to open in late 2028.
Spanning five acres, The Water District will feature an aquarium along with a “reimagined International Swimming Hall of Fame, an elevated public promenade and rooftop dining overlooking the water,” said Hall of Fame Partners, a developer, which, in partnership with the International Swimming Hall and the city of Fort Lauderdale, is responsible for the project.
One of The Waterway’s signature elements will be an “elevated promenade connecting two buildings into one seamless waterfront experience,” the company said, which takes its inspiration from “pedestrian corridors in New York and Las Vegas,” the company said.
The rooftop restaurant, situated above the promenade, will offer panoramic views of the Intracoastal and feature event spaces.
“You can come to The Water District 15 times in a year and do something different every single time,” said Hall of Fame Partners Managing Partner Mario Caprini.
“You come for a dive competition, you end up in the aquarium. You grab lunch on the promenade, you stay for dinner on the rooftop,” he added.
“That is what a real destination does. This is what Fort Lauderdale has been waiting for.”
The Waterway will serve as the official International home of the International Swimming Hall of Fame.
