Visitors will be transported along the Book of Kells’ journey from Iona in Scotland in 800 AD to Kells, and onward to its current home in Dublin, tracing 1,200 years of history. The experience also showcases several other manuscripts and books from the Old Library’s collections, including the 1916 Proclamation of the Irish Republic.
Visitors will interact with the sculptures of Ada Lovelace, Jonathan Swift, Rosalind Franklin and William Shakespeare, and view how the famous Long Room has existed from 1732 to 2024.
The Book of Kells Experience is part of the conservation works for the Old Library Redevelopment Project, which aims to protect and preserve the Old Library’s collections for the future. Proceeds from ticket sales are reinvested into the project.
Trinity College Dublin is the nation’s oldest university, begun in 1592. It’s rated one of the top 100 universities in the world, and is a popular tourist destination for travelers from around the world, especially for visits to the highly photographed Long Room library and the Book of Kells, a highly decorative illuminated manuscript containing four Gospels from the Bible.
