Most of us would take our canine companions nearly everywhere if possible right? They are, after all, man's best friend.

As it turns out, a tour company in Maine totally gets that.

Maine Foodie Tours, in Kennebunkport, is offering dedicated street food tours for dogs and their companions through the end of October.

And the tour isn't just a glorified visit to all the local pet shops. It involves stops at places such as Federal Jack's Restaurant and Brew Pub, where owners can sample craft beer with Rover by their side. Meanwhile, the dogs will be treated to peanut butter biscuits, according to Lonely Planet.

At HB Provisions, dogs and their owners get to enjoy ice cream together. The canine version is served with a biscuit bone, of course, while humans get whoopee pie on the side.

If dog and owner aren't fully sated at the first two stops, there's still more.

A local Kennebunkport store, The Candyman, serves up chewy saltwater taffy for tour participants. (Dogs may need a toothbrush handy).

"The dogs often provide lots of entertainment to us on the tours as they get to know each other and so far, they all get along," Pamela J Laskey, owner of Maine Foodie Tours told Lonely Planet. "Owners are all very aware that they should keep their dogs under control and all of them do. Most of the time, guests get into conversations with one another about all sorts of dog-related topics and it's just plain fun!"

A little bit of context is important here: The quaint and charming New England town of Kennebunkport has long been known as a dog-friendly place, so it should be no surprise that it is the location of such a unique tour offering. Dogs are welcomed in many Kennebunkport shops, restaurants, and even hotels, according to Lonely Planet.

The Colony Hotel, a historic property, even holds a season-ending weekend during which dogs join their owners eating in the dining room and swimming in the beach club pool.

Not to be outdone, The Captain Jefferds Inn has set aside five pet-friendly rooms and takes its doggie pampering to heart by offering personalized dog treats, bowls, towels and sheets.

As for the foodie tour, it's officially called Doggy and Me and costs $34 per person. The tour takes about two hours, and proceeds are being donated to the Animal Welfare Society of West Kennebunk.
