Las Vegas, a city well-known for being over the top in every way, has a unique new distinction to add to its resume.

It will soon be home to what is believed to be the world's largest cannabis entertainment complex.

Planet 13 Holdings announced late last week that they have broken ground on a superstore that is far from an ordinary dispensary.

The first phase of development of the Planet 13 Superstore will bring to life a more than 40,000 square foot, multi-faceted entertain space featuring interactive art and light shows, including 15-foot-tall LED lotus flowers on the building's roof that can be controlled by visitors; sensory activated LED flooring that creates an interactive show as guests are walk on it and orb shows on the interior ceiling.

If all of that isn't enough, there will also be areas for interactive laser graffiti where visitors can leave their mark and also a 3D projection visual experience that involves numerous visuals being projected onto walls.

None of which even touches upon the 16,500 square foot portion of the Las Vegas store dedicated to selling cannabis. The retail space will sell Nevada-made cannabis products such as edibles and flower oils.

"We plan to redefine the cannabis experience," Planet 13 Director of Marketing David Farris told TravelPulse during an interview. "This is an attraction and an experience that's really a one of a kind opportunity. We want people to spend some time there, take photos and take it all in. It is something that is special and unique."

Constructing the store will cost about $7.5 million. The price-tag of its many special effects alone is about $1 million Farris said. All of the work is expected to be complete by November, just in time for a grand opening.

The initial 40,000-square-feet is to be merely the first phase of development in what will ultimately become an expansive mall-like entertainment destination. Though additional features have not all been finalized, there is talk of adding restaurants, a coffee shop, retail space, and possibly chocolatiers on site.

The new facility will be just a few steps from the Las Vegas strip (regulations prohibit cannabis operations from being located on the strip itself). If all goes well, the Las Vegas location will be merely the first stop for the new concept. The company is eyeing expansion into other major cities where cannabis is legal.
