The post-Christmas months are known for being a little drab and for having a tendency to drag-especially when the weather is icy outside.
But some places embrace their frigid weather by putting on festivals that celebrate all things frozen, providing visitors and locals a fun event to look forward to on their calendars.
Why not wrap up warm and head out to the following snow and ice festivals, trying to forget about your numb toes for a few hours?
Ice Festival Harbin, China
This festival-and its beautifully intricate snow sculptures-is internationally-renowned. The event takes over the city of Harbin for a full two months (yes, it does stay that cold there, so make sure to wrap up extra warm) and includes a unique Ice and Snow World complete with illuminated sculptures.
There's also an ice lantern show, frozen river (for skating, curling and dog sledding) and an ice hotel.
Dates: 24th December 2017 - 25th February 2018
Sapporo Snow Festival, Japan
This is one of the country's largest snow events and has been running for nearly 70 years.
Ice and snow sculptures cover almost a mile of the city's downtown area, turning the whole place into a winter wonderland. There's also a huge "Tsudome", with large snow slides and snow rafting, as well as an Ice World with illuminated sculptures and an Ice Bar.
Dates: 1st - 12th February 2018
Snow and Ice Festival, Mongolia
For two days each March, the residents that live around stunning Khovsgol Lake put on a festival to celebrate their snowy backdrop. Most of the events take place on or around the lake itself, including ice skating, ice sculpture carving, sleigh rides and folklore concerts.
Perhaps the most fascinating part is the Ice Sumo Wrestling (it's making me cold just thinking about it), plus the Shamanic Sacrifice Ceremony and bonfire.
Dates: 3rd and 4th March 2018
