Do you have the Capital One VentureOne or Capital One Venture Card?
If so, you now have a new way to rack up tons of points on hotel stays booked through Hotels.com. This change comes on the heels of a new partnership between Capital One and the discount hotel booking site and is aimed at helping travelers who want simplicity and flexibility to maximize their points.
Here's how the new program works: If you have the Capital One Venture Card or the Capital One VentureOne Card, you'll now earn 10 points per dollar spent on hotels booked through Hotels.com. All you have to do is book your hotel and pay through hotels.com/venture to automatically earn rewards.
Notably, you can combine this offer with the Hotels.com Rewards loyalty program, allowing members to score a free night for every 10 paid nights booked through the site.
Obviously, this can help you earn even more free travel if you're a frequent user of discount hotel-booking apps and websites. Since points earned through Capital One are worth one cent each, each booking will earn a shocking 10 percent back for use on your rewards card. The free night for every ten nights simply adds to the value of this offer, especially since you can redeem Capital One rewards for stays through Hotels.com in the first place.
It's easy to see how this offer could be especially profitable when paired with the Capital One Venture Card. While the VentureOne version of the card lets you earn only 1.25 points for each dollar you spend, the Capital One Venture Card offers an unlimited 2 points for each dollar spent.
The Capital One Venture Card does come with a $59 annual fee that's waived the first year, but its extra-high signup bonus more than makes up for it. While this card once offered only 40,000 points for new cardholders, you'll now earn 50,000 points after you sign up and use it for $3,000 in purchases within three months of account opening.
But, what are those points good for?
The best part about the Capital One rewards program is the fact you can redeem your points for any type of travel you want. These points are offered in the form of "flexible travel credit," meaning you can use them to erase any travel purchase like hotel stays, airfare or train fare from your bill.
Because you can use your points for any travel purchase, you won't have to worry about blackout dates or capacity controls with different loyalty programs. You can also shop around for the lowest price to preserve as many points as you can. Since points are worth one cent each, the signup bonus on this card is worth $500 in travel on its own.
If you book hotels online frequently and have a Capital One travel credit card, it may be smart to take a closer look at Hotels.com in the future. With 10x points for each dollar you spend and your tenth night free, you could score a lot more free travel in the future.
