One of Australia's most highly anticipated hotel openings takes place today, as The Ritz-Carlton, Perth, opens its doors to guests and visitors. It's a big moment for Perth, capital of Western Australia, representing the Ritz-Carlton brand's first renewed presence in Australia in nearly two decades.
In recent years, the city has experienced unprecedented transformation and growth, including booms in both its tourism industry and dining scene, with the new Ritz-Carlton property certain to add to that momentum.
The Ritz-Carlton, Perth is situated in an incredible spot on The Elizabeth Quay waterfront precinct, where the Swan River connects with the heart of the city. It offers 205 elegantly appointed guest rooms and eighteen magnificent suites, which showcase the hotel's waterfront location, with full floor-to-ceiling windows providing sweeping views of the city skyline, Swan River, Elizabeth Quay waterside complex and the iconic Bell Tower. Modern, ultra-luxurious bathrooms feature dual vanities, rain showerheads and standalone soaking tubs.
The hotel's conceptual design pays homage to the region's natural beauty, history and culture, incorporating local materials into every aspect of the build. 10,000 pieces of Kimberley sandstone were hand-selected and installed across its exterior and extend into the lobby to evoke the dramatic landscape of Western Australia, giving guests a sense of what it's like to walk through the Karijini gorges. Kimberley's rich natural wonders are further reflected through the lobby's custom chandelier, whose 275 lights sparkle like water cascading through a Karijini gorge.
The upper portion of the structural exterior is covered with pink, mirrored glass, recalling the hues of a Western Australian sunset or the pink Argyle diamonds that can be found in the state's East Kimberley region. Further borrowing aesthetic elements from its location, the lobby features sculptures wrought from repurposed items that were dredged or dug up from the Elizabeth Quay, such as disused anchors, pieces of china and bits of old crockery.
The hotel's culinary realm consists of two unique food and beverage venues, led by celebrated local Executive Chef Jed Gerrard, whose menus highlight unique regional flavors, using leading local producers and winemakers. Signature restaurant, Hearth, takes diners on a tour of Western Australian cuisine's intriguing flavors, featuring fresh, foraged, seasonal and 100-percent local ingredients.
Songbird rooftop bar and lounge provides a refreshing indoor-outdoor space inspired by Australia's open skies and free spirit, complete with a playful menu of casual fare, including fresh seafood, barbecued meats and seasonal produce creations, along with artisanal cocktails, craft beer and local wine and spirits.
The Ritz-Carlton Spa, Perth embraces its riverfront setting, creating a world-class opportunity for relaxation and personal reflection with bespoke pampering rituals. A heated outdoor infinity pool overlooking the Swan River, along with two heated outdoor vitality pools with massage jets, a sauna, relaxation lounge and four idyllic treatment rooms help restore clients' sense of well-being and balance. There's also a fitness center to further encourage the connection between mind and body, featuring state-of-the-art equipment from Technogym, a yoga studio, and separate saunas for ladies and gentlemen.
The Ritz-Carlton, Perth will undoubtedly soon host many of the city's most influential events, offering a total of 21,500 square feet of meetings and events space. The 5,900-square-foot Elizabeth Quay Ballroom is complemented by numerous private conference rooms that provide stunning views of Swan River, the Bell Tower or Elizabeth Quay, and an outdoor terrace bar that can accommodate 100 guests for cocktail receptions.
